Christmas Planning

It irks me when I see Christmas decorations, and holiday season goods and hearing festive music in shops in November. And even in October recently although now I’m writing a blog post in August about Christmas planning.

There is a good reason – retailers, restaurants, wholesalers and just about anyone in food and drink hospitality industry require months of planning.

The festive season brings a huge opportunity for food retailers. Your ability to make every moment count through engaging storytelling and premium quality will set you apart.

Here are five top ideas you need to keep in mind as you start Christmas planning.

Less More is More

You don’t have to be a hospitality expert to foresee an increase in alcohol, turkeys and mince pies throughout December. In reality, almost all products see a dramatic increase leading up to Christmas. Simply put, people buy more of (almost) everything. Think free-range turkeys, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, mince pies and lots and lots of chocolate.

Go premium

Consumers tend to go more premium in December, buying higher quality produce. Everyone wants to be the host with the most. For that reason people will treat themselves and splash out, buying luxury and local products. This could be the ultimate way to impress guests. Consequently the uniqueness of what you source and manufacture will make you stand out from similar retailers and restaurants.

Retail planning

Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year – which is important for retail planning! With Christmas Eve being a Saturday, obviously it will be a huge day for grocery buying but also the Thursday and Friday before. Undeniably it’s important in the build-up to work closely with suppliers. And make sure you have the freshest products through the busy period.

Buying British

With Brexit and the current supply chain issues many will be buying British this year. For this reason logistics will be pushed to the limit. You need to factor this in early and secure delivery slots as early as September.

Get Your Photography Done Early

The 2-3 months lead up into Christmas is a very busy time for marketing, advertising and early promotions. Having your product and food photography completed early means less stress for you and more available slots for the photographer to schedule you in.

And if you want recommendations on a food photographer? I happen to know a guy … www.johnfyn.com  😉
